N.C.’s First Dunkin’ Closes

Print More

The first North Carolina Dunkin’ Donuts store closed Monday after more than 46 years. Groover and Joyce Blitch operated the store since it opened in 1986. Friends and customers streamed in all morning to say good-bye, wish the couple well and to buy their last doughnut there.

The city has been trying to buy the land for the planned future of the Capitol Boulevard design; the stream that runs outside the shop will be part of the plan.
