Pelagic Beer & Wine Shop, a craft retail beer store and tasting room that moved into its location at 300 Pace Street just a few months earlier will be moving just around the corner and next door to the former home of the Piebird restaurant.
On April 20, two permits were issued for work at 620 North Person Street (this property backs into 300 Pace Street; both are owned by the same LLC) totaling just over $400,000. The work will be handled by Construction by J Inc.
@NewRaleigh, which I’m pretty sure is the city’s most popular Twitter account, said Monday that Pelagic would be adding food and a roof deck. I spoke to Moe at Pelagic; all he could tell me was that yes, they were moving around the corner, but no, he wasn’t sure exactly when that would be happening or whether a food and a roof deck would be added to their offerings.
The work for Pelagic was actually the second largest renovation permit of the week. The largest was for a mixed-use office building at 8540 Collonade Center Drive, where Riley Lewis will be doing a 5,000 square foot alteration for Premier Inc. for $480,000. Headquartered out of Charlotte, Premier Inc. is a “healthcare performance improvement alliance” made up of thousands of hospitals and healthcare providers.
Discount home goods retailer Tuesday Morning will apparently be opening a new location at the Creekside Crossing shopping center on Six Forks Road presently home to Kroger and Planet Fitness, among others. Carroll James David will be handling the $389,000 build out of of the 12,135 square-foot space.
Three fire repair projects received permits last week – which seems like a lot. The projects included $28,000 worth of work at an office building at 2709 Blue Ridge Road, $80,000 in repairs for the Gethsemane Church at 2525 Sanderford Road and $100,000 for a small apartment complex at 25 Bashford Road.
What appears to be the final touches for a recent expansion at Cardinal Gibbons High School also received permits last week. Clancy & Theys, a company so prolific we’ve already written about them twice this week, received permits for a retaining wall at Gibbons. The retaining wall will cost the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh $74,366.
According to some site plans filed way back in 2011, the expansion included the “addition of a 67,675 square feet to a private/parochial school campus on a 36.6 acre site.”

The existing private/parochial school is 137,111 square feet. The construction will be two concurrent additions; a 23,765 square foot, two-story classroom, and a 43,910 square foot two-story arts & athletics wing with a realignment of the internal circulation for drop off queuing and parking. Upon completion of this 49.3% expansion, the cumulative size of the buildings will be 204,736 square feet. There will be no change in the previously approved enrollment of 1,236 students.

There weren’t a whole lot of interesting renovation permits issued last week, so we’ll close out with one for a place whose existence I’d been unfortunately aware of until now: The Poppyseed Market at 8801 Lead Mine Road. York Properties will be doing a $27,000 renovation to this gourmet deli & cafe located in the Harvest Oaks Plaza.
Normally I’d scoff at the notion of a gourmet deli, but the menu is nothing to laugh at. They’ve got everything from BBQ meatloaf, lasagna and beef-brisket tacos to meatball subs, cheesesteaks and Reubens. Sounds pretty awesome.
